November is Parent Engagement Month
Parent Involvement is an integral part of the Douglas County School System Title I Department. Parents are encouraged to become active participants in their child's education by providing a variety of services. November has been designated as Parent Engagement Month. Ms. Lisa Dunnigan is the District’s Title I Coordinator and Patti Sullivan is the Parent Outreach Specialist for our system. The following proclamation was read at the November 5, 2012 Board of Education meeting.
WHEREAS; Education is the gateway to a brighter future for our children and our state. Georgia is committed to excellence in education and recognizes the importance of family participation in that pursuit of excellence; and
WHEREAS; Through active, ongoing engagement with their children, parents have the power to ensure their children succeed in achieving education goals. Parent engagement can take place at home and at school; and
WHEREAS; Partnerships are powerful, and by working directly with their children’s schools and teachers, parents can build a strong foundation on which their children will thrive; and
WHEREAS; Parent Engagement Month provides an opportunity to raise awareness of the importance of parent engagement in a child’s education from Pre-K to 12th grade.
THEREFORE, the Douglas County Board of Education proclaims the month of November 2012 as PARENT ENGAGEMENT MONTH with November 15 as PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT DAY in the Douglas County School System.
