LSHS After School Program
Lithia Springs After school Program
also know as
CHAMP
Director: Alena Tappin
Days: Mon-Thur
Hours: 4pm-6pm
Last year we wrote a grant to fund an after school program, we were awarded the grant. It specified that we were to serve 50 9th and 10th grade at risk students. At risk means, failing one or more classes, or participating in risky social behavior.
There are two main goals for the program:
a. get kids help with subjects they are struggling in
b. provide a safe place to grow and learn
We do this in two ways:
a. from 3:45-5 we have tutoring and homework help, certified teachers work with the kids (10:1 ratio) to help them both complete homework and build their academic skills
b. from 5-6 we have enrichment activities, these activities include weight lifting, art, kickboxing, tennis, life skills, community service, and field trips.
We provide transportation home at 6pm for those kids who need it. The only students allowed on the bus are our CHAMP kids. In addition they get a snack for free every afternoon.
There is a parent involvement component to the grant. Parents must participate in both educational and involvement activities. Anytime a parent of a CHAMP student comes on campus to meet with a teacher it can count for our involvement.
Lastly, we will be running three weeks in the summer, we will provide transportation both to and from campus for the students in the summer.
